Interviewing made easy

Asking for feedback

Asking for feedback

4 minutes

Feedback gives you insights that allow you to learn from your interview experience helping you to improve your performance going forward.

If you’re told you have missed out on the position, contact the interviewer (preferably by phone) to ask politely what it was that let you down.

The feedback can be invaluable but your approach needs to be handled sensitively.

Things to remember when asking for feedback:
1
Do not put interviewers in a position where they have to justify why you weren't successful over the other candidates.
2
Do not attempt to counter the interviewer's comments.
3
Listen politely. Then thank the interviewer for the opportunity to interview and for the time taken in helping you assess your performance.
4
They still have your information on hand and they may come back to you if things change. So, always maintain a positive and gracious attitude.

When your follow up has been effective, the insights you will gain through this process will allow you to learn from your interview experience, helping you to improve your performance going forward.
