In creating a standout resume, it’s important to keep in mind what is truly important to the job ad and how you can match up to it.

The first step is pulling together what you already have. Look for your old resumes, former position descriptions or old performance appraisals. Don’t have any of those? Make a list of the positions you’ve held and start googling. Find position descriptions online that are most closely aligned with the responsibilities you’ve held.

Take a look at 3-5 job ads for the role you want and look for repeated skills, words, and requirements. These will tell you exactly what they want in an applicant. Use this information, take a look at their language and what specific keywords they use to describe a role, and mirror it back.

Instead of listing down your tasks, write what changed because of what you did. Use CAR (Context, Action, Result) to describe what you've done in your previous roles. Add numbers (targets, time saved, volume handled, etc.) wherever you can.
